Each time we verbally welcome the Holy Spirit to work in our lives He is able to do so with greater ease and empowerment, by that renewed invitation to do so. I myself am capable of praying for my needs independent of using the "Daily Maintenance Prayer"as I know many other Christians are also able to do, but I use this prayer and ones like this one as a guideline. With the help of the Holy Spirit I am incorporating this prayer to help bring God's working hands more intensely into each area of my life which needs to be addressed by the Blood of Jesus Christ. Becoming a Christian is all about growth and renewal and the more we commit ourselves to learn and adhere ourselves to the ways of God and the more we learn how to bring God into our every situation, the more renewal our soul will receive. By the way it is worded, each time I use this prayer I surrender myself afresh into God's hands and give Him a renewed invitation to work in every area of my life and especially in the areas I am asking Him to help me with. I encourage every Christian to make their own prayer guideline as to what they want to or what they need to pray for in their life.
As I said I use this prayer and ones like this one as a guideline. This prayer is diverse and covers many areas of prayer concerns and so every time I read it over I am addressing many areas of prayer needs. Some days I seem to breeze through the prayer and I don't feel any area that needs extra attention, and other days as I read it over I feel a need to add more and vocalize more in several areas of the prayer, and so I do. I also want to emphasize that throughout the day, aside from this written prayer/ guideline which I use I will also find myself several times praying for different people and situations. The word of God says that we need to pray continually and on all occasions, so as we can see prayer is a big part of a Christians life.
Ephesians 6:17-18 NIV 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV 16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus
Each day we should invite God to mold and refine us into what it is that He has planned for us to become, and which He is striving to accomplish in us. Some people would say that God does not need us to continually put that invitation before Him, but by continually asking God to work in our life is showing God and satan what the daily desire of our heart is. That renewed invitation daily empowers God to go deeper within our soul to refine and mold us, and God can't work with that which is not being given to him to work with. Some people can restrict God from working in their life especially if they are not committing themselves to grow in God, if they are not working on expelling sin from their life, if they are not giving their burdens to Him, and if they are not inviting God to work in their life especially when they are having a spiritual struggle of some sort.
Some people would say that God always knows the desires of our heart and that would be true for any person who continually speaks to the Lord and tells Him what is on their heart. God will be able to see the condition of your heart regarding what you believe, where your loyalties lie, and what you are committing yourself to by your confessions, by your prayers, and by your actions, words and deeds. If you call yourself a Christian and you are not demonstrating to God any participation on your part to let Him work in your life, or it seems that there is no desire on your part to encourage God to bring about a change in you then God may test you to see what is in your heart.
Deuteronomy 8:2 NIV 2 Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
2 Chronicles 32:31 NIV 31 But when envoys were sent by the rulers of Babylon to ask him about the miraculous sign that had occurred in the land, God left him to test him and to know everything that was in his heart.
